Every week a Springdance teammember will post a blog about their activities and news.
This week: Ellen Krukkert, Festival Coordinator
I’m writing this blog while being in Nottingham, UK. Together with 3 international partners–Dance4 in
For the last week 9 emerging artists had dialogue sessions mentored by Jane Greenfield from the UK
and Philip Szporer from Canada. This group of 9 dance makers talked about their work, and exchanged
their experiences and ideas. They’re very special people, 6 different nationalities and based in 5 different
countries.Actually 6 countries, or wait… was it 7? These young artists travel around to create and perform
their work all over Europe.
After 5 intense days of dialogue sessions they had the opportunity to show their work to the Nottingham
audience during 3 ‘triple bill’ evenings at Nottdance. You see similarities in their work, but also big differences.
Each one of them uses their experiences to create beautiful and inspiring pieces. They will also take a bit of
EIM with them the next time they will enter the studio to create a new piece.
In April there will be a new group of 9 young and emerging dance makers who will enter the EIM experience.
Jonathan Burrows and Cosmin Costinas will mentor and guide them while exchanging their ideas.
The dialogue sessions are closed sessions, but you are welcome to see the work of these 9 promising
artists during Springdance at the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of April in Huis a/d Werf in Utrecht.
I mainly work at Springdance to coordinate the festival, my role is to make the festival happenproduction wise.
I assist with the financial agreements and make decisions about hotel rooms, catering and transportation.
The upcoming festival will be my 4th festival already. My production assistant and me take care of all the
artists and other guests, and our job is to inform them about the festival and to make sure they have a pleasant
stay during Springdance. Besides that we are making sure the artists can actually come here and perform their piece.
Tomorrow I will travel back to the Netherlands. The lovely people I’ve met here inspired me to organize an
extraordinary SPRINGDANCE 2011 and 2nd edition of Europe in Motion – Mosaic Identities!
