At the initiative of Springdance, Dance4 from Great Britain, Centrul National al Dansului (CNDB) from Romania and Springdance from the Netherlands joined forces in January 2008 to create the uniquely inspiring international talent development programme Europe in Motion. Europe in Motion was divided into three parts, each part taking place in one of the partner countries. Embedded in a festival, each episode offered twelve up-and-coming choreographers the opportunity to discuss their fascinations, the traps they face, their work, their methods in a dialogue which was led by different moderators from the dance field. In addition, the festival setting allowed them to present their work to international audiences. The collaboration was born from the urge we felt to stimulate the international exchange among European artists and to support their artistic development. We also wanted to show our open-minded, interested, and internationally oriented audiences what the current developments are along Europe’s East-West line. A total of 36 choreographers participated in the programme. They have had the opportunity to reflect upon their work and their working methods, they have learnt from each other, from the differences in background, culture, vision and passion. The intensity of the work process has allowed them to take significant steps in their development and has given them international colleagues for life.
